The project
A deck that follows the house.
At this Evanston home, the deck runs along the rear elevation and follows the projecting bay window. The low platform connects the exterior doors with the garden edge and the adjacent paver patio.
From bay window to patio
The deck boards are fitted to the angled walls around the bay window, with a cross-board separating the two main areas. A wood fascia follows the outer edge. At the patio end, a single step sits beside a short railing with vertical wood balusters.

Construction process
Before the deck boards went down.
The construction record includes the open wood frame before the deck boards were installed. Joists and blocking follow the footprint around the bay window. A second photograph shows a carpenter preparing lumber with an electric planer.
